MYTH BUSTING

GENDER&SEXUALITY EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS

With the apparent rise of anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate speech affecting our community and safer spaces, it feels important to hold onto one another and protect each other as we are approaching Halifax Pride season. We wanted to create a clear and direct resource that our community could use as a tool in disrupting this hate speech when they are feeling safe to do so, and when not, a tangible way for our allies to show up for us. Our communities are powerful and caring for ourselves and each other is a radical act. 🩷🩷🩷

There is a plain text version of this resource [HERE], which includes the sources and data we used to create it.

Content Warning:
This resource discusses the rise of anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate speech, and through this, briefly mentions suicide and other general mental health impacts of homophobia/transphobia. It also discusses sexual exploitation and abuse of 2SLGBTQIA+ children, youth, and adults, and also briefly discusses colonialism.

YOU BELONG HERE

CONVERSATIONS ON

CHOSEN FAMILY

This printable resource is the result of group and individual conversations with the Youth Project’s Youth Board, composed of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth under the age of 25, and the Youth Project Staff team in Kjipuktuk (Halifax). The conversation was inspired by ancestors and elders who impact the way we love and care for each other. Sweetest thanks to Mo Glitch for their fantastic illustrations and graphic recording!

All of the people who contributed to this conversation have unique perspectives on what their chosen family means to them. We hope that this resource shows you that there are multiple ways to cultivate familial love in your life.

We want to hear about what you think chosen family is too! We have created postcards for you to send a message to your own chosen family members. Print out one of your own on our website and write a sweet message to a chosen family member near or far.

ANTI-RACISM

CONSIDERATIONS

FOR PROGRAMMING, OUTREACH,

AND RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

The Nova Scotia Youth Project has developed a digital resource to be used by service providers, organizations, and businesses who work closely with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) youth. The Anti-Racism Considerations for Programming, Outreach, and Resource Development is a compiled list of current best practices, often utilized in grassroots and community based organizations who work with historically excluded and underserved youth. The goal of this checklist is to provide a tangible and accessible entryway for service providers to platform anti-racism in their communities and workplaces.

This document was created by The Youth Project, in consultation with The Khyber Centre for the Arts and MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning. Plain Text Version: [LINK]
